Data reference

What the data covers, how periods and units are labelled, and the tables you can query with run_sql.

What it contains

US-listed companies and ETFs, from 2010 to 2026 (prices from December 2016):

  • Income statements, balance sheets and cash flows, quarterly and annual, for 3,928 companies.
  • Company-specific KPIs as reported in filings and earnings releases, such as comparable store sales, segment revenue, store counts or subscribers, for about 3,700 companies.
  • Diluted and basic EPS (eps_diluted, eps_basic) for about 4,300 companies, and regular dividends per share (dps) for about 1,900, both split-adjusted to today's share count and keyed by calendar quarter.
  • Calculated free cash flow (fcf_calc: cash from operations minus capital expenditure), and dividend totals by calendar and fiscal year.
  • ETF cash distributions per share (etf_distribution) for about 2,700 ETFs, by calendar quarter.
  • Company guidance from 8-K earnings releases, over 200,000 guided figures with every revision, scored against the reported result once it is out.
  • The SEC filing index (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K), over 940,000 filings with links to EDGAR.
  • Daily prices (open, high, low, close and volume) for about 24,700 stock and ETF tickers from December 2016, provided by IEX.

Stock Atlas holds no analyst estimates. Every value is a reported actual unless it is labelled as company guidance.

Periods, units and labels

  • Fiscal periods (fiscal_year, fiscal_quarter) follow each company's own fiscal calendar. Apple's fiscal 2025 ended on 27 September 2025.
  • Calendar periods (calendar_year, calendar_quarter) are the calendar quarter that contains the period's end date, so a quarter ending 31 January is calendar Q1. Use them to compare companies. A minority of quarterly rows have no calendar period assigned; the fiscal period is always present.
  • Money is in whole units of the stated currency: 416161000000 USD is $416.2 billion. Per-share values are USD/share. % values are percentage points: 2.1 means 2.1%.
  • Reported actuals carry a value_kind: income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement, per-share data, company KPI, or calculated by Stock Atlas.
  • Guidance results are labelled as company guidance. guidance is the midpoint where a range was given, with guidance_low and guidance_high alongside.

Tables for SQL

run_sql accepts DuckDB SQL (reference). describe_table lists any table's columns.

  • obs — every reported value: ticker, metric_id, ptype (Q, FY or QE), fy, fq, cy, cq, period_end, value, unit, currency
  • metric — the metric catalogue: id, name, family, unit, definition, how many companies report it
  • metric_canonical — groups company-specific metric ids under a common concept
  • prices — daily open, high, low, close and volume for stocks and ETFs (IEX); columns ticker, d, open, high, low, close, volume
  • bridge — each company's fiscal quarters mapped to period end dates and calendar quarters
  • filings — 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K filings with EDGAR links
  • guidance — guidance as issued, one row per metric, target period and release
  • guidance_outcome — guidance scored against the reported actual, one row per company, metric and target period
  • conflicts — values where sources disagreed, and how
  • kpi_coverage — how current each company's KPIs are relative to its statements
  • build_meta — the version and date of the data build

Limits

  • Each query runs for at most 20 seconds and returns at most 500 rows; aggregate in SQL for larger questions.
  • Every tool call counts as one request against your plan, its database time against the plan's query-time allowance, and the rows it returns against the plan's row allowance. Usage is on your dashboard.
  • Access is read-only.

Sources and attribution

  • Financial statements, KPIs, guidance and the filing index are compiled and normalised by Stock Atlas from public filings on SEC EDGAR, including earnings releases filed on Form 8-K.
  • Values sold only by third-party data vendors are not served. A small number of per-share values have no recorded filing citation; get_provenance shows each value's source and confirmation tier.
  • Price data: Data provided for free by IEX. By accessing or using IEX Historical Data, you agree to the IEX Historical Data Terms of Use.
